My Paint Process...

At Tansey Custom Paint, I have a "specific process" to ensure high quality custom paint jobs. Here's some of the basics:

1.    Sandblast all metal parts to remove old paint and contaminates. I do not accept "ready-to-paint" primered parts. There's no way to ensure the stability of the finished job without KNOWING how the substrates were prepared.  After sandblasting, any bodywork is performed.

2.    Wash-down and prep bare metal.

3.    Apply epoxy primer.

4.    Wet-sand epoxy primer to provide a "foot" for the new paint. This also provides a smooth "orange-peel" free surface, which saves time on the final finishing, and renders a smoother surface for artwork & graphics.

5.    Base-coat or single-coat color is applied at this stage of the process. (For single-coat colors, skip to step #9).

6.    Apply a double coat of  catalyzed urethane clear over base-coat. This is then wet sanded smooth to prep for artwork or graphics.

7.    Apply artwork and / or graphics.

8.    Apply two or three coats of catalyzed clear urethane.

9.    Wet-sand to remove any defects, and any "orange-peel"  (to prep for polishing).

10.    Machine polish to a "glass-like" hi-gloss finish.

11.    Hand polish to "detail" the finish.

12.    Final clean-up and  package for shipment.

I'm fussy about the work I turn-out. I use only quality materials, and communicate with my paint clients during the process. I also follow-up after the job is returned.
